Blizzard Beach Water Park
Walt Disney World has two amazing water parks: Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Currently, Disney has the parks on a rotating schedule, with only one open at a time. Blizzard Beach Water Park is normally open from the Fall season to early Spring. Both water parks have fun theming and plenty to do. We have a hard time choosing which one is better because they both have unique features that set them apart. Blizzard Beach underwent a large renovation recently, and now features a rethemed kids area. The Tikes Peak play area was transformed into an adorable Frozen themed spot for littles. Visiting Blizzard Beach during the holiday season is extra special. There are so many festive holiday touches throughout the park, making it a super fun stop during the Christmas season.
New Frozen Friends at Tikes Peak
The Tikes Peak play area that once featured Ice Gator, has been rethemed to include all our favorite Frozen characters and music. Disney Imagineers created a super immersive, adorable Frozen themed water attraction for children under 48″ tall. This new Frozen themed area for children features Olaf and his “Snowgie” friends, as well as Anna and Elsa. There is a wading pool, spraying water features, small slides and a lazy river. This area includes plenty of shade cover, lounge chairs, and a sandy beach.
Holiday Happenings
There is so much holiday fun going on at Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park in November and December. We love all the fun, festive extras going on and I highly recommend visiting this holiday season. Here are a few of the holiday happenings you might experience:
- Santa Claus in his tropical attire!
- Catch snow falling throughout the park.
- Seasonal menu items throughout the park.
- Cute holiday-themed inner tubes!
Tip: Wear water shoes! You will do a lot of walking and the pavement can get very hot. Regular shoes and flip flops are not permitted on most rides, however water shoes are. Lifeguards may instruct you to remove them and hold them on the large body rides, but for most things they can be left on.
Know Before You Go
Blizzard Beach is absolutely huge! You will have no trouble spending an entire day here to take it all in. With 9 different water slides, a giant wave pool, a lazy river, obstacle course, a dedicated area for small children, working chairlift, 11 food and beverage spots, and 2 gift shops, you will be overwhelmed in the best way.
This park is super fun and a great way to experience Disney magic. If you forget to bring anything, Disney does a great job of providing options to make your day relaxing. Check the weather ahead of time and know that if lighting is detected in the area, all guests will be asked to seek shelter and water activities will be temporarily closed down. While most slides will remain open during rain, the chairlift will not run if conditions are unsafe.
Tickets
Day tickets are valid at both Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon and Disney Blizzard Beach water parks. Advanced ticket purchases are recommended, however a park reservation is not required at this time. The price online is the same as in-person. I recommend reserving online to streamline the process and add tickets to your My Disney Experience app so your magic band will get you in. If you purchase in person, you will be given a physical ticket. Prices are currently $58 to $63 for children ages 3 to 9 and $64 to $69 for adults. The cheaper ticket option has blackout dates and is not available during peak times. There is also a discount for annual passholders. Passholders.
Park Hopper Plus tickets include a few more perks than the standard day ticket. If you have a ticket package that includes park tickets with the Park Hopper option, consider adding a Park Hopper Plus for even more fun! Park Hopper Plus tickets include admission to the following:
- Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park – when open
- Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park – when open
- ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex – Currently Unavailable
- Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course
- FootGolf at Disney’s Oak Trail
- Disney’s Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course (one round; prior to 4:00 PM)
- Disney’s Winter Summerland Miniature Golf Course (one round; prior to 4:00 PM)
Tip: Arrive early during the busy months! The parking lot is rather small so space is limited. There are lots of lounge chairs available, but it can be tricky to find several all together.

Is It Worth It?
Let’s answer the real question you might be thinking; “is it worth spending the day at Blizzard Beach?” For years, we avoided water parks. When visiting Disney from out of state, we were usually on a time crunch and a tight budget. I never really stopped to consider how amazing a Disney water park experience might be. I’m not sure what I expected, but since moving to Florida and becoming passholders, we have become water park people! We added water parks to our annual passes and love stopping in throughout the year.
I love that you can easily fill an entire day here, but it’s a chill day compared to walking around the theme parks. If you’re more interested in relaxing, this is the place for you. It’s less expensive than a theme park ticket, making it a great option for a down day. As a mom of littles and teens, my main concern about water parks, is chasing a kid that can’t swim, while making sure my teens aren’t bored. Blizzard Beach has something for everyone. They have a great kids area that feels very contained and manageable with lots of life guards on duty. There is also a lot of great shade near the kids area for relaxing. I feel very safe allowing my teens to explore on their own, while I sit in the shade and watch my youngest float down the child-sized lazy river.
